A2 Coursework: Editing (Click Image to Enlarge)

1. Describe how you have tackled the editing process?

I have finished filming and editing my music video. I found that my storyboard made the editing process a lot easier I was able to see how I wanted my video to look and what order I wanted my scenes to be in so that the story I wanted to put forward was clear. I was able to go into editing my music video with an idea of what I wanted to create. I was also able to use the peer feedback that I gathered from my classmates to idea of what I could possibly add into my video via editing. I was also able to use my past experiences of using Final Cut Express from my previous AS coursework, this was useful as it meant that I am already familiar with the tools and effects and I was able to avoid pervious mistakes that I had made last year.

first used the basic editing functions to put my footage together. For example I used the razor blade tool to create the jump cut effect and to be able to pick and and choose specific scenes I wanted to use and where I would place them.

2. What are the 3 most important decisions you have made whilst editing?

1.)Whilst editing I made sure I used certain functions and editing styles when I was putting my music video together so that I was able to create the desired effects that would suit the style of my artist, video and storyline. I made sure that I edited on the beat so that scenes and song flowed well together.

2.) One of the visual images that I wanted to stand out in my video was the use of the fortune cookie, which is a key element to my music video. I had my artist crush the fortune cookie in his hand and then changed the speed of the clip and reverse it so that the clip played backward and in effect making it seem as though my artist was putting the fortune cookie together as he finds true love at the end.  This was important as I used this effect continuously throughout my music video.

3.) In order to make the lip syncing aspect of my music video precise I used makers to aline the music track and video footage to that the lip syncing would be in time and also so that I would know where to aline my video footage.

3. What went well during editing?

Through editing I was able to crate effects that created meaning to my music video and song for example:

I also used the speed to slow down the last clip shown in my video when my artist is holding hand with a girl to crate a romantic atmosphere.

I used the fade out effect for the ending of my music video as it is a common effect used to signal the end of video/film. I also used this effect as it went with the fade out that is used at the end of the song I have used.
All this crated meaning and more depth to my music video,
