A2 Coursework: Digipak Research: Forms and Conventions

1.What is a digipak and how is it similar/ different to an album cover? Digipak offers video extras

Example of Digipak

DigipakNet
- A Digipak is the packaging in which a CD for a music album or DVD is held in. It consist of 4 flat surfaces that includes a tray in which the CD or DVD sits. It opens up in a gateway fold and in the stylings of a book. It is similar to an album cover in the fact that one of the faces of the Digipak is the album cover. It displays the artist and conveys the style and message that the artist want to put across. As it is digital there are are extra feautures that can be offered such as video footage of artist and making of videos, it also offers the chance for the consumer to watch the artist music video.

2. What does a digipak net look like and how many faces are usual?
Digipaks are usually made up of four panels which opens out like a book.

-What you are like likely to see on each of the four panels :

  1. Front Cover
  2. Back Cover
  3. Inside left panel
  4. CD Tray

However there panels that go up to 6 and 8 this often used when the digipak consists of more than one CD and allows more creative space for additional album artwork and additional products such a DVDs and lyric booklet. For my media coursework I will be designing a digipak that has four panels.

3. What do we usually find on the various faces i.e. front cover? Back cover? Inside cover? CD tray?

Front Cover

 1. Front Cover: This usually displays the tittle ofthe album and the artist who is usually at the front of the digipak. This is a very important aspect of the Digipak as it allows the artist to be established and seen by possibly consumers as it has to stand out in oder to attract customers especially for artist release debut.

Back Cover
2. Back Cover: This usually displays tracks that will be on the disc, price/bar code, record label and additional detail about the album.

3. Inside Cover: The inside cover usually includes a lyric booklet that will include all the lyrics of the songs on the album that has been purchased  or a thank you from the artist.

4. CD Tray: The CD tray is where the CD (main product) lies it usually has simple design that is similar to the common designs already used therefore allowing it to follow the theme for the album.
